“Vivarium” Choir

History of the “Vivarium” Choir Association of Viver, told by the choir itself

This choir originated in the second half of the 1970s in the town of Viver, in the province of Castellón. It was founded by the tenor canon of Valencia Cathedral, Miguel Bou Piñón, under the name Belsino. After a period of inactivity, the choir resumed its activity at the beginning of 2001 under the direction of Francisco Belarte Rodríguez, adopting its current name: “Vivarium” Choral Association of Viver (with many voices inherited from the previous choir).

In January 2007, Juan Laffarga Civera became the choir’s director, a role he held until January 2026. Since 13 January 2026, the choir has been directed by Francisco José Flores Giménez.

The choir’s activity is very diverse. It takes part in the patron saint festivities of the town and in other municipalities of the Alto Palancia region, such as Montán, Montanejos, Gaibiel, Caudiel, Teresa, Bejís and Segorbe. It also performs in Christmas concerts, Holy Week events, sung masses, choral festivals and other occasions, with a varied repertoire that includes religious, classical and popular music, as well as zarzuela.

The choir has performed alongside the Viver Chamber Orchestra, the Viver Music Band, and the “José Perpiñán” Orchestra of Segorbe, in concerts dedicated to zarzuela, Holy Week events and sung masses, accompanying soloists such as sopranos Nuria García Arrés and Consuelo Gómez Padilla, and tenors Antonio Navas and David Montolíu Torán.

The choir has also taken part in numerous exchanges with other choirs, including those from Navajas, Altura, Quartell Musical Union, Almedíjar, Resonare Fibris of Valencia, “Pi de l’Anell” of Vinalesa, Torres Torres, Gilet, Benicalap, San Pedro del Grao in Castellón, the Benimaclet Musical Instruction Centre Choir, “Alba” Choir of Alfara de la Baronía, “La Llum” Polyphonic Choir of Xirivella, “Indalecio Soriano Fuertes” Choir of Cella (Teruel), and the “Serra d’Espadà” Polyphonic Choir of La Vall d’Uixó.

The choir has also participated in several editions of “Nadal al Carrer”, organised by FECOCOVA (the Federation of Choirs of the Valencian Community), of which it is a member, performing Christmas carols in the streets of Valencia together with around 25 other choirs.

In 2026, the choir took part in the 36th Diocesan Proclamation in Segorbe, contributing the musical accompaniment to this meaningful celebration.

Today, the choir is made up of 30 singers.
