THE WOMEN OF VIVER ARE NOT ON WIKIPEDIA

Sample from the theatre workshop on ‘Memories of our women’

‘The women of Viver are not on Wikipedia’ is the name of a show that emerged from an interesting and innovative workshop on memory recovery for women, which took place in Viver during the month of June.

This theatre workshop, promoted by the departments of equality and culture of the Viver Town Council and the Women's Association, and subsidised with ministerial funds from the State Pact against Gender Violence, was directed by Mafalda Bellido, from the La Zafirina theatre company. Bellido is a playwright, actress and director, with a degree in Dramatic Arts from the ESAD in Valencia and winner of several awards and recognitions.

The ‘Memoria de nuestras mujeres’ (Memories of our women) project is a cultural initiative that aims to recover the past and more recent history of women in Viver.

Through sharing, the aim was to learn about the lives, big and small, of the residents of Viver and to rescue forgotten or unknown stories. Finally, after the entire process, this literary, poetic and theatrical creation was brought to life, with the participation of the residents of Viver.

To this end, an open call was made public on social media, posters and the town council's WhatsApp group, and twelve women have finally joined the project, completing the entire process.

The workshop consisted of three parts: the first part was a workshop in which participants shared their stories orally and in writing.

Bellido then worked on them to shape them into theatrical text, poetry or narrative, and using all the material, he created the dramaturgy for the show, weaving together all the stories he had collected.

The second part of the workshop consisted of rehearsals, and the third part was the successful performance of ‘Las mujeres de Viver no salimos en la Wikipedia’ by the twelve participating women at the El Convento Cultural Centre, with the aim of sharing it with the residents of Viver.

The response was overwhelming, with more than 200 people attending the performance. The audience was captivated, laughing, crying, reminiscing and moved.

Just like the twelve women who staged the dramatised reading, who were able to enjoy an exceptional and unforgettable experience.

In addition to the satisfaction expressed by director Mafalda Bellido and production manager María Cortes from La Zafirina, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for their creativity, professionalism and hard work.
