HIKING

We offer you eighteen hiking routes through places full of nature. These routes are suitable for people of all ages.

We offer a set of 18 hiking routes, basically within the municipality of Viver, although some of them extend to other neighbouring municipalities.

The set of routes covers the whole of the municipality of Viver, so that if all of them were done, we would have a global vision of the territory.

The purpose of these routes is not only to offer a recreational and sporting alternative in Viver, but also to get to know the territory of Viver, as well as various heritage and natural elements, which are named in the explanations that can be found in each of the routes.

They form a network in which some of them intersect, especially in the areas that we consider most attractive, as can be seen in the overall plan. Combinations of the routes can therefore be sought by personal choice. The global map is only intended to give this overview, to locate the routes in each area of the municipality and to be able to choose the one that most interests us, as well as those nearby that may be related, or if necessary, even to make combinations of several routes.

The routes are not marked on the ground, and unless you know how to orientate yourself very well, it is advisable to follow the track using a GPS (or a mobile phone with this function) to be able to follow the route without getting lost. The tracks for each route can be downloaded directly from the Wikiloc links.

In addition to being published on the Wikiloc portal (in summary mode), the 18 routes are also published in full (with more descriptions) on the blog of the Club Excursionista del Alto Palancia, where you can consult the complete information if you are interested in finding out more about the territory. In this blog you can find more information about other routes in the region, as well as other contents such as caves, war refuges, geography, toponymy, etc.

These routes were edited by Pepe Juesas and Paco Mas in 2020 and 2021.

NOTES:

NOTE 1. For the routes RV4, RV5 and RV17, which run along the river Palancia and may require getting wet.

During the years 2020 and 2021, due to frequent rainfall, the flow of the river Palancia is much higher than usual in recent decades. For the same reason, the vegetation in the riverbed is more abundant. The routes indicated cross the river on several occasions, so it will be necessary to take both circumstances into account. If you enjoy the water and finding the path through the brush, you will have a good time; if not, it would be better to wait for the circumstances to change.

NOTE 2. About the forest fire of 2022.

In August 2022, a disastrous forest fire broke out in Bejís that devastated some 20,000 hectares of the Alto Palancia region, including a third of the municipal district of Viver.

Therefore, many of the hiking routes cross burnt areas (RV4, RV5, RV8, RV10, RV11, RV11, RV12, RV15, RV17, RV18).

Although the areas can still be visited, it is obvious to remember how sad it can be to walk through a burnt area, although many corners can still be enjoyed, and it is also interesting to observe the regeneration process of the vegetation (generally acceptable in the kermes oak and kermes oak areas, and more complicated in the pine forest areas).

On the other hand, some routes only partially touch the burnt areas, and the views of the landscapes are interesting, as well as the heritage elements that can be observed.

Finally, and in this respect, it is easier to get lost in burnt areas, as the trails are not well distinguishable, so we must be more attentive to the GPS track.

NOTE 3. VIVER ROUTES NOTICE, April 2025.

Route nº 11.

NOTICE, April 2025.

Due to the extension of the quarry and the effects of the fire of 2022, there are slight changes in the route of this route, from the Fuente de Morredondo to the detour next to the quarry (and the drinking trough), as well as the continuity to the Vía Verde. It is passable and well marked with milestones, there is only a little divergence from the originally published track, but it is easily walkable and interpretable on the ground.

Route nº 4.

NOTICE, April 2025.

Due to the effects of the fire of 2022, there are burnt pine trees fallen and about to fall in the section that goes down from ‘la Cantera’ to the footbridge over the canal. It is possible to walk along them, although it is somewhat uncomfortable. It is planned to remove them later on.

Routes nº 5 and nº 17.

NOTICE, April 2025.

Due to the effects of the fire of 2022, there are many burnt pine trees fallen and about to fall in different sections of the route, making it IMPRACTICABLE for the time being. We hope that in 2026 the route can be reconditioned.
